Painting II

"Supervision"

Media: Acrylic Paint

Date: November 2024

The meaning behind this artwork is to convey the idea how my family, represented by the eyes of each family member, is strained from vigilantly watching out for me for potential danger. The eyes on the mushroom creates a dream-like effect. While my family members are looking out for me, my heart is opened up and awaiting to welcome someone represented by the heart window's opened shutters. The mushroom is intentionally place in an open field for anyone to enter the door.

"Fuming Sadness"

Media: Smoke & Colored Pencil

Date: October 2024

This artwork was made using a lit candle and a canvas. The process of making this art piece was to uses the tip of the lit candle and drag across the canvas. I directed the flame towards the center of the canvas and tilted the canvas adjacent to the flame to cause a "smokey" effect. After that I used an eraser to subtract the areas I wanted to keep white, like that hair and eyes. Finally, I touched up those areas with a white colored pencil to make the lines pop.

"Luminosity Lessons"

Media: Acrylic Paint

Date: March 2024

This artwork represents the appreciation of the small things in life. The references I used to create this piece were photos of items I found around my art teacher's, Mrs. Thomas', classroom. Her classroom is one of my favorite environmental settings to be able to create artwork, with the additional combination of being surrounded by people with common interest, builds an atmosphere that helps me thrive. We tend to forget the little things, for example, Mrs. Thomas' lamp in the corner of her room, with a skull, and as well as a clock. Although these are what seem like random items, I find them significant in her classroom where those items were present when laughter filled the room. I know when I glance at this painting, I will always remember that thriving environment filled with memories and laughter in that classroom that I will reminisce.

"Feathers of Contrast"

Media: Watercolor & Marker

Date: February 2025

This artwork showcases a vibrant peacock, its feathers bursting with color, symbolizing creativity and individuality. The colorful feathers contrast with a black-and-white box at the center, representing conventional, dull thinking. This represents the idea of breaking free from limiting thoughts and embracing the beauty of thinking outside the box, where color and innovation can flourish.

"Parrot Paradise"

Media: Watercolor & Ink

Date: September 2024

This artwork was made laying down watercolor paints in a parrot silhouette on paper and I then blew air through a straw to make a "splatter" effect. After I was satisfied with the splatters, I used an inking pen to define areas like the eyes and feet.

"Florish Loophole"

Media: Marbling

Date: October 2024

This artwork was made with dropping inks on a surface of water then swirled with a stick to create patterns. After layering a variety of colors, I swirled with a stick to manipulate the colors to form each petal of each flower. I wanted my flowers to be pink with a yellow center, so I added those colors last, layering them on top of the blue, purple, and green

"Electric Sea"

Media: Acrylic Paint

Date: January 2025

This artwork is painted on the unconventional surface which is a lampshade. I chose a lamp shade because the material of the lampshade was similar to a canvas and it is functional and decorative at the same time. This artwork takes place under the sea, inspired by the movie, Finding Nemo. I started off with sketching out the octopus, the surgeon fish, and the clown fish. After that I started to paint on top of my sketch. I saw that their was a lot of bare space so I added coral, seaweed, and rocks.

"Random Wonderland"

Media: Watercolor Paint & Marker

Date: January 2025

This artwork was when I was experimenting with watercolor techniques, I put a wash of red-pink, orange, and yellow to fill the entire page. Afterwards, I covered the entire page with a layer of salt and left the salt to absorb parts of the watercolor wash to create an interesting effect. Then, after set aside overnight, I picked at the salt and removing any grains remaining. Lastly, I used thin and thick tipped marker (sharpie) and made an illusion-like hole near the center of the page with a variety of random things falling in the hole. I used the shading technique, cross-hatching, to add dimension. I choose to draw random thing falling into a hole to represent how many random thoughts I forget, as if they disappeared in a hole.
