Safe Space

Peer Critique

The artist behind this painting, Trebor Nadon, whom is my classmate, named the painting Safe Space. Trebor used the split-complementary colors, green, blue, and redish-orange. The shapes used in Safe Space are both geometric and organic. The scene takes place outside with half the canvas with nature and greenery and the other half has buildings and skyscrapers. The main focal point of the painting is the tree, which splits the sides between nature and buildings. Near the bottom half of the painting I can see a person with a redish-orange jacket on siting on the grass looking at both sides. The painting makes me feel like the person is in their own world looking at the contrasting sides. I feel like the painting demostates inner-peace. I personally like this art piece because of the meaning behind the painting.

Peer Critique

The artist behind this painting, Vee Wilson, whom is my classmate, named the painting Chi-yu. I like how Vee made the paint look opaque and flat, the background looks like Vincent Van Gogh’s painting inspired by the famous starry night and scream painting, I love the line art, the swirls in the sky gives it character. The flames are very dynamic and organic looking. At first I was confused on what it was, after observing it for a while I came to the conclusion that it was a fish. I like the  overall painting, the only thing I think could improve this painting is add more definition and adjust the fish’s anatomy to give the painting some clarity.
